History
Proof striking. Proofs were struck for collectors and sold separately from circulating coinage; this is a distinct coin from the 1850 Braided Hair Half Cent. Mintage from the NGC published mintage field. Mintage cleared to VERIFY: this card had inherited 39,812 from its business-strike sibling at clone time. NGC lists both an MS and a PF row for this date, so both coins are real, but 39,812 is the BUSINESS figure and is not this proof's mintage.
